Do you remember the days when the ticking of the Doomsday Clock was something that drew commentary, editorials and general fear?
Begun in 1947 by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, the clock was a symbolic way of showing just how close humanity was to global catastrophe.
Many who came together to establish the clock had worked on the Manhattan Project to build the first atomic bomb. They knew what they were talking about.

In 1962, the year of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Doomsday Clock was set at seven minutes to midnight.
In 1984, when Ronald Reagan and the USSR were locked in a dangerously escalating nuclear showdown, the clock moved precariously close to three minutes to midnight.
People paid attention.
After the fall of the Cold War, people forgot about the clock, but the scientists kept providing their annual assessment.
Since the war in Ukraine, Gaza and the disaster in Iran, the clock has been ticking ever closer to midnight.
In 2026, the scientists moved the clock to a mere 85 seconds to midnight — the closest it has ever come to striking a terrible midnight bell in its 80-year history.
Unfortunately, in a realm overwhelmed by chaos, disinformation and slopaganda nobody seems to have noticed.
As I write, we are learning that a Romanian ship was targeted and sunk in Romanian waters. The Romanian government has been careful not to name the perpetrators, lest they force NATO to invoke Article IV to deal with the obvious Russian threat.
The sinking of the ship represents the most overt provocation into NATO space by the Russians. Previous threats included shooting down Russian drones that came over the border into Polish airspace. Similar threats were made against Denmark.
Last week, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Maria Zakharova threatened to target British bases over Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s decision to supply Storm Shadow cruise missiles for the Ukrainians.
Zakharova warned of “catastrophic consequences.”
The Russian threat came as Donald Trump suddenly issued his own threat against the UK over the future of the Falkland Islands.
Under Donald Trump, the United States has continually played the role of the “me too” enforcer for Putin, so it is not surprising that Britain was openly targeted by the US following the Kremlin threat.
The once-dominant American military that the world relied on to enforce its sometimes arbitrary notions of peace has become a force for chaos.
The Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, has fired senior staff of the Navy and Army in his pursuit of blind loyalists.
A disastrous war in Iran has gutted the US missile arsenal, while the growing conflict threatens to unleash economic chaos as winter approaches.
Now, in a desperate bid to reopen the Strait, the United States is threatening the destruction of the entire Iranian civilization.
With all these issues in mind, the United States has turned their attention to Canada. Unable or unwilling to show leadership on the global stage, they are attempting to show resolve.
Hence the claim to rename Lake Ontario.
Most people I know think it’s ridiculous, but Trump has claimed the right to unilaterally move the border 50 to 100 kms. This would give him control of the Great Lakes.
There are no adults left in the room at the White House or the Pentagon. They serve the whims of a very dangerous and desperate man.
Trump has turned his rage on Canada because he can’t stand up to Putin or deliver on Iran. And his administration officials know that their future depends on Trump’s ability to deliver — no matter how insane or debased those orders might be.
A recent post by the Department of the Interior (the agency that deals with parks and tribal lands) issued an image of a mangy coyote holding a broken Canada goose in its jaws. It was a vicious and deranged image, generated by a department of the United States government.
Key officials must have reviewed and signed off on it.
An accompanying meme stated, “We’re on it, Mr. President.”
When the world was at six minutes to midnight, people from all over the globe marched in the streets demanding an end to the nightmare of nuclear escalation.
Now, the Doomsday Clock has us at 85 seconds from disaster, and we are just doomscrolling memes on our phones.
Canada has never been in a more dangerous position, and Canadians understand this is not a joke. We need to work with like-minded resisters across the globe to push the clock back yet again.

I grew up learning about the Doomsday Clock. I wish more people today understood what it means. Between wars, conflicts and climate change it marches inexorably on and there is no snooze button. That should scare everybody.
As for Lake Ontario, the US regime apparently doesn't get what "13 of 15 locks on the St. Lawrence Seaway System are entirely within Canada" actually suggests.
Vous êtes toujours maîtres chez vous.
Love from the Beautiful City on the oddly-shaped peninsula to the far southeast of you. Elbows up.
We are the true north strong and free. We resist. We fight. We never surrender.
Bring it on, oh great Orange Psychopathic Pig. The whole world is laughing at you...when we're not terrified that you will blow us all up.
