Putin and tRump are in cohoots, no doubt about it. I would not be surprised if they have a plan for Russia to continue discreet air infringements, explosions, incursions into NATO countries to test the waters and eventually, Russia will invade a NATO country (soon) and tRump will refuse to abide by Article IV and announce he is with Russia to take over parts of Europe.

By the way, I was educated as a physicist, in the course of which I became personally acquainted with people who were involved in creating the first nuclear bombs. (One of them, Frederick Reines, was my instructor in electrodynamics and quantum mechanics and the principal investigator of a particle physics experiment to which I contributed as an undergraduate.) Few, if any, of those people are still alive. If any do survive, I expect they're aghast at the people who now control the American nuclear arsenal. For my part, having learned about, for example, what was done to Robert Oppenheimer, I vowed never to work on anything requiring a security clearance, a vow I'm very glad I've kept.

Apparently I can’t share via uploading a photo of the USS Lincoln here. Anyway Ronald Reagan must be spinning in his grave right now! I hope my friends in Canada saw photos of the rust bucket ship during docking today. My point is Reagan at least was proud of the US military. Once upon a time the GOP ( Guardians Of Pedo’s) was also very pro-military. Now they are kissing tRumps ass in fear of losing their lives and their families lives and go right along with tRump and his quote “ the military is for suckers & losers” attitude. Perhaps Canadians aren’t aware that many of the J6 seditious criminals that tRump pardoned have been rearrested for sex crimes against children. They are all deadly and the republicans know this. Only a tiny few will stand up to tRump. They lost their bids for reelection. They have the opportunity to speak out against tRumps disregard for our troops and the ships they sail on. Yet they won’t. There are other reasons why Reagan is spinning and one is he believed that the United States was what he referred to as “ the shining city on the hill”. We are now the laughing stock of the world. I as an American can’t blame them. I too am extremely ashamed. I just deeply hope that the world will not be too harsh on the USA and its people. Today in Texass they closed 70+ voting stations of 300 just in ONE county alone!! Please, I beg the world to pray for the democrats to WIN. Generally speaking, there are two types of weapons based on nuclear materials: 1) thermonuclear weapons, 2) radiological weapons. Thermonuclear weapons are primarily blast weapons designed to destroy cities and kill millions of peoples. In contrast, radiological weapons are designed to make areas uninhabitable and/or uneconomic through low-level radioactive contamination, but not to kill civilians en mass.
Canada currently is a signatory to the NPT (Non Proliferation Treaty). Because thermonuclear weapons are designed effectively for mass civilian death, I believe most Canadians would never support the development of such weapons.
Radiological weapons could be seen as defensive weapons.
Through its CANDU program, Canada presently has the medium-term means to develop thermonuclear weapons, but it would, presumably, take years. But Canada also has the immediate capacity to produce radiological weapons. Not sure where Canadians would land on the development of radiological weapons, particularly if we face aggression.

I ve been noting some successful animals have other effective deterrents, quills and smells and such, can we find some of those equivalents to develop?
Not sure about other non-lethal alternatives, but sure they are out there (how effective they would be, I don't know). As for radiological weapons, well, we have a lot of source material from CANDU reactors (stored at several locations, which probably should be dispersed and secured). Any such weapons should only be used in the final stages of, say, an occupation. As for precision and tactics, I guess it depends on what is made. But I think the idea would be to disrupt military logistics and industry in the aggressor nation to undermine the war machine of occupation. This could be very precise, indeed (perhaps deployed on drones etc). Basically the idea would be to locally interfere with operations. Who would show up to work, say, if background radiation levels are a thousand times what is considered safe?
This is all horrific, I agree, and sickens me just to think it. If such weapons are developed, they should only be used in the most dire circumstances (for example, there are other forms of sabotage within Canada itself that could be used first in the event of occupation). But I think Canadians need to think about it not to be caught flat footed...

In the 80's I marched in No Nukes protests. I saw Helen Caldicott and Gwynn Dyer speak. I watched The Day After, Threads, Testament, Special Bulletin. I would check the northern sky for ICBM contrails. I lost sleep.
100,000+ nuclear weapons. Aimed at everyone. On a hair-trigger. MADness.
We haven't forgotten the lessons. We never learned them.

In May 2026, the Pentagon abruptly canceled the deployment of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division—a roughly 4,000-strong tank unit—halting its scheduled rotation to Poland (https://www.stripes.com/branches/army/2026-05-13/tank-brigade-deployment-to-poland-on-hold-21662087.html). Canada is withdrawing its remaining UN peacekeeping troops back to Canada (https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/news/2026/07/canadian-armed-forces-rebalances-operations-to-strengthen-global-footprint.html). This could get very fraught very quickly. As a nation we must have overwhelming unity and determination to prevent and/or respond to what may be coming our way. Gird yourselves and take courage.
