Thanks for hammering the civilian defence point home. It’s critical.
To that end, we built a drone simulator.
Resisters can learn to fly a drone in 30 seconds. No drone required. Just your phone and 1-click to Horseflies.ca.
Could use some help getting the word out @Charlie Angus / The Resistance. Let’s get 1 million Canadian drone pilots so we can deter any USSA aggression. Keep up the great work.
Course in nonviolent civilian defencse offered by World Beyond War. Even if you are not feeling “non-violent”, it might be useful. Has anyone taken it?
Do what you've gotta do. I served in the US Army Reserves decades ago, and my American father and uncles fought in WWII where an uncle, an infantry squad leader, was decorated and died in Normandy on 14 July 1944. My father was also decorated and partially disabled like another uncle, and one uncle 100% disabled. I never thought I'd say this, but 'go for it, Canada.' All of my wife's grandparents were Quebecois, she remembers going there to visit family numerous times as a child. You're on the right side of history and I'd be go to hell if I'd be a 'good German' in a situation like this. My wife and I have lived right, and know that Canada is on the right side of history. I'd bet your guys would go to ground, use drones, and wait for US dissension in the ranks to cause massive problems for us. Of course, we'd slam your military initially, but you have to occupy the ground, the cities, and keep control over the territory. In a nation the size of Canada, with the type of pluck you guys have displayed in past wars? Our ignorant MAGA types and Orangutan orange leader, like Hitler, think the world is theirs. A good part of our Guard and Reserve forces would begin to dissent, unit integrity would diminish, and, well, it'd be Vietnam with snow. Jesus, how stupid can people get! Remember this- you will be a nation long after we've broken up. Yes, that is our destiny. We are the product of a forced marriage between slave owners and northern merchants who are far more like Canadians. Many of us, like my family and I, originally from New England, feel very much at home in Canada. And we will NEVER support a US attack on our political kin.
One thought, and mirrors Matt Gurney’s article from yesterday. Canadians will have to become more relaxed about gun ownership if we are to contemplate mass armed resistance.
I'm an 82 year old woman and have never been so disgusted by the POTUS! We are living in great fear daily! You give us hope in these dark times. Thank you, Charlie.
Echoing sentiments of others from US who have tried and failed to reach/save former friends/family. Sharing this as frank caution and concern. For many the level of dement isn't far off from Trump's - they're all-in.
(I'm among those who have irrevocably lost a parent - personal scale of rupture that feels not all that different than the one that we're in midst of between nations. Being the only child to an aging, widowed parent, I recognize the exhaustive and often effacing efforts to find win-wins, to compromise, and to work together - from willingness to under duress to worse - while trying to help the other accept and get help. While secondarily trying to protect self and own needs.)
For many there isn't a common ground or a slippery slope that they haven't been appealed with or had pointed out in good faith discussions or even pleas from well known loved ones and targets of regime plans and actions, to please be reasonable, take a step back and consider.
There is a dangerous -I believe I can fly, too- delusion among them of being able to grow or develop that level of certainty/assuredness in Trump and doses coming through the seasonally fresh pets/parrots around him and string-pulling and plotting seconds/advisors, like an acquired immunity.
From my point of view, for Canadian defense and counter-insurgency, that's the vulnerability to target, to weaken or eliminate any binding factors those that are All-in have with others in units and orgs - whether through charisma/confidence, bullying, or otherwise.
It's irrelevant if they are 'true believers' in him or specific ideologies/aims whether religious, white nationalist, etc., or have had simplistic fixation on an issue (like abortion or flag burning) or it's self-identity suicide or social death to waver (Never not Republican, can't support anything Dems do) they've continued to double/triple-down in the face of even obscene inconsistencies. They're all-in.
Don't know what it looks like to try to ID or isolate and pick off the All-in sort in Canadian defense/counter-insurgency efforts, but my mind goes back to how Ukrainians stalled out Russian forces during Feb 2022 invasion - that the ferocity, commitment, knowledge, and plans were not held and supported in depth.
With Canadians' deep historical knowledge of US forces SOPs and audit of changes to leadership and command/control behavior in last year, and efforts to secure own intel gathering/data-mining and leadership assessment processing and what sharing with trustworthy allies hoping insights into vulnerabilities in operations and tactics will be clear and targetable, as well as critical chokepoints in operations and logistics and commanders in chain of loyalty (command) to weaken/sever loyal/faith in orders and confusion with plans/coordination for more stalling in vulnerability and retreats, and ideally routs and mass surrendering.
Very worried right now, echoing distressing observation someone else here made, about warning bells going off for them reflecting on timeline of events and Putin actions and behavior leading up to and in/around Sochi 2014, with invasion of Crimea immediately after. Trump-Republican regime's focus/building up in Minnesota -- and now more activity in Maine -- is deeply concerning.
Hopefully most if not all units/actions IDed with highly concentrated with All-in-type forces will be most heavily targeted to stall/disable (and CAF follow-up efforts planning around the fact surviving units will remain eager and likely most danger of brutality and unpredictability with those soldiers having been marinating in bad apple-making barrels of loyalty, exceptionalism, and dehumanization). With attacks on more heterogeneous forces targeting command/control, stalling in vulnerability to progress
Hopeful and expecting outright Canadian success eliminating or neutralizing any and all eternally shaming covert precursors let alone wider assault plan.
Standing with you and in service of keeping Canada humane and healthy, free from the insanity from invading externally and to counter the invasion efforts trying to infecting from within.
Time to start planning the Canadian underground resistance. Our decency and practical kindness will save our country, and the soul of our nation by guiding our communities to make the best of each other. We can hurt the enemy best by empowering ourselves.
Read about citizen resistance, especially in cold climates and other qualities your part of Canada has.
Think about what you’re already good at and figure out how to use it.
I’m not fit to be any kind of militia or military member but I can pour a couple litres of cola in a gas tank. And so on. Do some reading and turn your imagination loose.
I hope our government is preparing a Civilian’s Guide to Underground Resistance, a Civilian’s Guide to Sabotage, a Civilian’s Guide to Making IEDs, Drones and Other Weapons, and so on, to be distributed on the internet at the first sign that they’re coming, and printing stacks of them to be dropped by drones. If not, we can do it.
Most American troops will know they’re on a completely insane mission against their closest ally. Propaganda is always important but these people may be especially susceptible to a certain kind of message.
I can write fairly well and quickly so I’ll be looking for a couple of artists, a few people with printers and supplies, and distributers — people who get around locally and long distance who can use a drone to drop a bundle of leaflets at points along their routes.
Being sociable and getting together from the beginning makes it easier to share information and supplies without a noticeable change in behaviour. If you already belong to a book club or any other social group, start talking to the others about resisting so the ideas are already present and the group can rapidly adapt to a second function.
All community organizing is incredibly helpful. A neighbourhood, an apartment block, a town or district — organized and outgoing people should already be organizing block parties, socials in the common room… and canvassing the people for both their skills and supplies, and their special needs. Maybe someone can operate a ham radio and does a regular broadcast but can’t get downstairs if the power goes out.
If you have land, growing food might be the most important job. Find your local gardeners. You’ll ideally have a mixed team of older people who know how to get the most nutrients out of the dirt and young strong people to learn and do.
Some people will be at highest risk. Can you hide a few in your home? Look up plans for secret rooms.
People who are hiding fugitives can be tracked if they suddenly buy unusual amounts of food. People from the gardening team need to drop by.
A lot of older people are not being used effectively, to their detriment and that of society, so let’s not overlook the trove of low-tech skills and practical knowledge the nearest retirement home contains.
Kids need education, and young nimble hands are great for assembling fiddly things. Everyone, but especially teens, needs a purpose. This will be a great purpose so all that energy is there.
However, kids, and everyone, will need psychological support so we maintain our resilience. We’ll need a Citizen’s Guide to Supportive Conversation Groups with sensitive people keeping an eye out for anyone who really needs a longer downtime, whose emotional load could bring on a violent rage, etc. Introverts and people with autism are often really good at this so maybe set up a Quiet Council.
We don’t need 15 million people with guns, but we do need millions fighting, each in their own way. Think there’s nothing you can do? Think again — we’re counting on you! Hugs
Angus, I share the core point: we need sober readiness, not denial. But I can’t follow you into insurgency rhetoric (“mass casualties,” sabotage, etc.). That framing abandons the moral high ground and undermines the legitimacy we’ll need if things get uglier.
I operate under a Covenant of Core Rights (https://dapaday.blogspot.com/2025/12/CovenantOfCoreRights.html) that I push as a replacement for the ridiculous Canadian Charter. A Covenant-sober posture is: truth-first, no fake emergencies, reject domination, and treat force as a last resort—proportional and accountable.
If Ottawa is seriously exploring a large supplementary volunteer reserve for emergencies (wildfires, floods, infrastructure shocks, and—yes—contingencies), then the public conversation should stay anchored in civil defence and resilience, not revenge fantasies.
The fastest “mobilization” that doesn’t require militarizing society is dual-use capacity: grid hardening, rail spurs/ports, domestic processing and manufacturing, supply-chain redundancy, comms and cyber resilience. That makes Canada harder to coerce and better to live in—whatever happens.

True, north, strong, and free.
On board to join the defence in any way possible. Wouldn't NATO join the fight?
Where can we contact the organizing group?

Start by downloading the Simple Sabotage Field Manual. Still much useful info, even though it was written for WW2. (Also it's free).
Hopefully a large contingent of the Canadian civil defence force will be Albertans 🙏
Wannabe-American collaborators are also fair targets if it comes to that. No qualms about taking them out if needed.
Insanity
