Yes, thank you Charlie for stating the truth once again. We met some US citizens last night and they still support trump and would vote for him again despite the recent events. Wow. Let's stay strong and support ourselves through the next phase as we change from subservient to strong and independent.
Dorothy, I agree with everything you said except the ranked ballot voting system. Such a system would give us a Liberal majority every time. Why do you think Justine Trudeau was in favour of such a system. What we need in Canada is proportional representation.
Let’s not kid ourselves, though, let’s not let the headiness of patriotic fervour completely trample the realistic recognition that the next several years will be very difficult, as we (hopefully) affect this transition. We must remain firm in our commitment even as it starts to meaningfully impact our economy and our individual financial conditions.
I've been writing about that for some time now in various media outlets, but so far it's gone unanswered. I've also stated that the European Union is the right trading partner, not a crutch like the USA or other autocratic countries.
I would even be happy to help establish contacts in Europe, and especially with Germany and Switzerland.
Thanks for your ever-insightful commentary, Charlie!
I have been thinking about a book I read...more than 50 years ago...called (I think) The Balance Wheel (Taylor Caldwell?)
What sticks in my mind from that book, read when I was young and impressionable, was that behind every war and social upheaval are those who operate unseen, those who will profit from it and care nothing for its terrible cost
We saw some of their faces in relation to Trump's threats to Greenland.
I'd appreciate it if you could shed more light on that in the present situation, Charlie!
Walter Gordon described Canadian industry as branch plants for the USA or words to that effect in the early 1960s but did we listen? Finally Canadians are realizing we have a mighty fine nation providing its citizens with a decent social safety net and way of life. Thank you President Pumpkin Head for nudging us along to a great future.
The fact remains we are so tied to the USA economically and militarily, that our weapons components still find their way into the USA and from there to Israel. Jenny Quan has a bill to close those loopholes. I wish Charlie would talk more about that.........because we've not only been tied tightly to American's through trade deals.......we go along with most of their covert regime change schemes as well. And in Gaza, Canadian's relative silence is depressing.
Couldn't agree more, Charlie. We US citizens should be left to suffer through our own stupidity. Canadians and every other free nation need to show a giant middle finger to the US Faciscist Party (formerly the GOP) and move on - no regrets.
Were there is a will there is a way as we always say.
Amazon distribution centers are across our country from coast to coast to coast that could be utilized to collect Canadian Made products . Maybe not all distribution centers ..but key locations such as the North in the N.W.T. Manitoba , Ontario, New Brunswick at first. This would help the folks way up north have a cheaper supply of goods too I hope.
That way we can all order online our own products, to make it easier for us all to access all Canadian made products made by Canadians.
We would own the distribution center and call it Coast to Coast to Coast Canada!
The logistics are already there and the warehousing and staff are already trained.
I've heard Amazon and other outfits like them are laying off a lot of workers.....intending to rely on artificial stupidity systems to do the work for them...but of course, if we had a Canadian supply chain perhaps union jobs wouldn't be anathma??
They were talking on the tely last night about the K shaped recovery. That's where the stock market goes up, but the jobs/general affordability for the people goes down..............
Sounds to me like what Marx predicted: When new markets become hard to find, capitalism cannibalizes on itself. But anything's fine so long as we avoid the dread socialism, lol.
Canada has an (at keast) Federal Administration with a functioning brain...we in USA have an old man with demonstrated dementia and a surrounding group of sycophants. Buck up Canada...
Carry on into a world where this (former) USA fades....up until Trump it had been one Hell of an 80 year run for us since WW2 - but it would appear we've, as a people, "lost it." Good bye glory, I guess.
Don't give up....look at Bill McGibbons latest post...it has some good news about the energy transition. America could join that effort, and many in America are trying. One thing about solar and wind, it has no need of weapons of mass destruction. Since the sun and wind are everywhere some of the time......its hard to steal or monopolize it........though I'm sure there will be some old fossils who will try.
👍As an Albertan we need the support of fellow Canadians!!! Write your MP to complain about the foreign interference by the USA

Your reply gives me hope. Thank you.
Elbows up! Shamed american
Eventually PRESIDUNCE trump will realize his mistake.
Not likely
Ah but realizing and admitting are total different

Yes, it won't be without pain and sacrifice

It will be nice to see Canadian companies to be able to start up and not be bought out by the USA.
so that Canadians have to buy their cheap and usually plastic parts
Isn't NY powered by Canadian electricity? Cut it off.
Parts of New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island,
Michigan, Oregon, California, Minnesota.
I’d be embarrassed too if my first name was Cornelius, I see why he calls himself Peat
The future is in our hands. We'll said.

I certainty agree.

When over 70% of your trade is with the USA, that is easier to say than to do.

Its just in the idea stage.
