Punk rock, you say? Have I got a book for you! It’s called NextGen, and it’s about a group of kids who start a punk rock band in a collapsed society where all jobs have been automated (including that of “punk rock band”). It’s a deep dive into the types of politics and economics (how will displaced workers be provided for?); art and music (is true artistic expression the last vestige of humanity?), and philosophy and spirituality (what the heck do you mean you “exist”??) that may be awaiting us, maybe just around the corner. It will be available in print and digital very soon, but in the meantime, please read chapter 1 here and throw me a subscribe, and I’m happy to return the favor!

You have rocketed to the top part of my heros list in Politics and Music! I'm still playing Hanging Songs! Can't wait to discover your library! I'm a big troubador fan. I hear some Gordon Lightfoot and Woody and Arlo, John Prine and John Lennon and I'm sure a few undiscovered other influences to your music. You are a prolific writer of words and song I intend to follow. Hey when you're playing in BC be sure and drop down to Seattle for a show please. Watch out for ICE Agents!☮🇨🇦💙
Atta boy, Charlie, you're still a rock'n roll revolutionary!
A retired friend with whom I still play music in our band Bourbon Sprawl (now Canadian Corn Whiskey Sprawl) just last week penned a nice short song, "Once Friends", about our rift with the loud Americans next door... Hope you like it!
Interesting, I only recently became aware of the association between Punk music and white supremist organizations. My eldest son was heavy into punk rock music but never Nazis. He did say that some pretty scary Nazi types would show up at parties in Surrey BC sometimes. Blurred lines for sure.
Thank you so much, Charlie. Like you, I chose playing in bands over going to university and I don't regret it. That was back in the UK during the Thatcher years.
Canada is now my home and I am a fiercely loyal Canadian and so thankful that this country adopted me.
I will not be quiet and I will not be cowed because I understand that this is what authoritarians need. They need us to keep our traps shut, so we have to speak out.
I want to share with you and everyone on here a song called, Dear America (A Breakup Song). I've released it via Creative Commons so that anyone can download, play, perform, or even record and release it with zero payments or royalties coming to me. I just hope it resonates with people, because it feels like one of the most meaningful songs I have ever written.
Charlie you need to be appointed ( and accept ) the position as Canada's Envoy At Large. Keep on doing what you're doing and help save our country. We are with you! You are Us!
I am concerned seeing posts from the right that the Conservatives are ahead in the polls now in Canada. Any truth? We need to get big numbers out to Carney’s rallies. He needs to address the Liberals record of the past 9 years. This is what the right are repeating over and over. I hate the thought of PP becoming PM. God knows he has money being thrown at him!
Why so angry? You are entitled to your opinion. I know for a fact that not everyone is already decided when they go to a rally. Of course, many are but like myself, and others I know, we have gone to hear in person what a candidate has to say. Some of us like to be informed before we just blindly vote for one party or another.
I hear you. That’s fine, don’t go. I know many people who attend these, not to ra, ra and pat each other on the back, but to actually gather information about what the candidate stands for, which questions they avoid answering etc. I attended a PP rally to hear what he was about and what he stood for. It was helpful in my deciding I would never vote for him. Cheers

I’ve been everywhere. Great rendition - Hank would love it. Only one regret - you missed Tompkins, Saskatchewan!😊
I heard the Angels at the Winnipeg Folk Festival in 1993?? & have been a fan ever since. ‘One job Town’ is the greatest. Carry on.
I loved this post!

So glad to hear you are gigging again, Charlie. Hope you get around to a show in North Bay sometime. Yeah, isn't Canada great?

Having said that, who attends rallies? People supporting the candidate.
You and me and everyone has to vote. Look around at what is happening.
It's not 'business as usual' now. Good luck.
Rallies are meaningless. Do you or I or anyone else waste our time to attend rallies? I wouldn't if my preferred candidate held them next door to me.
I'm not into such things, they're absurd. Who attends them? Nuts?
I vote, not into any rah rah rallies bullshit.

Sorry bud, but if you take time to go to a political rally, you've already decided something.
Which is to say, don't pretend to everyone here that you didn't know what you were walking into.
No one here buys that bullshit.
I love reading you, thanks Charlie!
Thanks for the Hay River mention! I moved from the Bay (North Bay) to the Hay 15 years ago and my heart is fully filled by both!
