OK, I had to look it up too to be sure. Speaking of words and meanings, I think it's interesting that even the American officials say that only China and Canada have "retaliated". They could have said "responded" or "reacted", but they admit that we have retaliated. Everyone knows you can only retaliate when you have FIRST been attacked or injured.
I think the way to hurt the Trump administration is with a (quota system) going both ways, not tariffing goods. lessening the amount of Potash, Oil, Gas, Lumber, Steel, Aluminum that is exported to the USA. Lessen the amount of goods we import from the USA. We need to slowly turn off the tap that fills their need for everything that we import and export. Less actual pain and enhance our freedom with reliable trading partners.
Hurling tariff bombs at each other is just getting a lot of innocent people hurt.
This is brilliant!! I remember that fight -- I was in grade 11, growing up in a college town in Oregon, the black sheep rebellious teenager in a very conservative, southern baptist family. All the talk was of how the draft-dodger Ali was going to be beaten to a pulp, and I loved it that he won. I remember how patient he was while the commentators puzzled about why he wasn't dancing and flailing. That fight is the perfect analogy for our PM's masterful strategy. Mr. Carney is doing exactly what we elected him to do: stand up to Trump. I'm so proud to be Canadian, especially at this moment in history. We've been given this opportunity to step up and fight the good fight, and while I often feel overwhelmed with despair and fear, I am not defeated. Thank you, Charlie, for a much-needed shot in the arm!
Hi Charlie, thanks for your writing and insight. I’m in a red state and hope there is something my state needs that Canada provides. I hate these MAGA people running my state and this country.
Classic bullies are unaccustomed and ill-equipped to deal with intellectual opposition, esp this one. As difficult this is for many of the parties impacted by this battle, it IS quite entertaining and satisfying AND uplifting to watch....

Although I think Carney is an absolute star and that he is showing the rest of the world what they must do to stand up to the the United of America, these actions will have no influence on how Trump’s base votes in the midterms. MAGATS belong to a cult and drank the Kool-Aid a long time ago.
