What a beautifully moving song and video! Thanks for sharing and for the reminder of the things we cherish. So much was sacrificed by so many.... we can't let ourselves move backwards.🇨🇦

Today is D-Day, a remembrance of the turning point in WWII for the defeat of Hitler and his Nazi Regime.

In 1944, allied troops landed on five different beaches in the region of Normandy, a kind of province or state in France.

The difference between a region, versus a province or state, is even though representatives are elected in each case, a region does NOT make its own laws. It only administers the laws created by France's centralized government.

If Trump had his way to centralize power:

In America, that would mean no more governors, state legislatures or elections run as they exist in the USA today.

In Canada, it would mean the loss of regional autonomy for provinces like Alberta or Quebec. Right now, provinces decide how their own jurisdictions work through the laws each province passes for itself. The federal government represents the provinces and territories as a whole to the outside world.

As for D-Day, it is a military scheduling convention that was first used in World War One. It works in conjunction with H-Hour, to indicate what time in the day a particular operation is to commence. The reason for this, is that military operations don't occur all at once. They have dependencies.

So, an order issued by military command to its various units to do something at a particular time, in a coordinated way would be stamped as:

D-Day date H-Hour time

You don't want to broadcast to your enemies when something is going to happen should they intercept your communications. D-Day is a placeholder for the actual date. And, H-Hour is a placeholder for what time the first event in the schedule begins.

D-Day for the Normandy invasion was June 6th 1944. In all communiques concerning Normandy, D-Day implied that date. And, the first operation was scheduled for 12am.

If we looked at a military schedule of what happened, it went like this:

D-Day, H-Hour

101st Airborne Pathfinders parachute in to mark drop zones.

D-Day, H+1

British glider troops land near Pegasus Bridge.

D-Day, H+2

82nd Airborne Pathfinders begin their drop near Sainte-Mère-Église.

D-Day, H+3

Landing craft prepare for the beach assault.

D-Day, H+6

American forces land at Utah and Omaha beaches.

D-Day, H+7

British and Free French troops land at Sword Beach.

D-Day, H+7.5

British forces land at Gold Beach.

D-Day, H+8

Canadian and British troops land at Juno Beach.

D-Day, H+8.5

Brécourt Manor assault (famous airborne attack).

D-Day, H+24

The Allies secure beachheads, but inland fighting continues.

And, if we look at a schedule of what happened after the beachheads were secured, it went like this:

D-Day

The amphibious landings on Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword beaches.

D-Day+1

Troops pushed inland, securing key roads and towns while facing German counterattacks.

D-Day+6 to D-Day+30

The Allies fought for control of Caen (Operation Perch, Epsom) and expanded their foothold in Normandy.

D-Day+30 to D-Day+90

The breakout from Normandy (Operation Cobra) led to the liberation of Paris

4,500 Allied Soldiers were killed just on the D-Day landings. Many within the first minute of having disembarked their landing boat.

Today, veterans are protesting the orange asshoe-weinie nation wide. Please join them.
