A Message to Putin, Trump & Navarro
Ukraine is the Frontline — Canada Will Hold Our Ground
Standing at the gates of the Russian Embassy in Ottawa, I have a message for Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Pete Navarro. I couldn't have picked a more perfect spot.
I went to the Embassy to stand in solidarity with the protesters who gather each day outside the gates for freedom in Ukraine. On the morning that I attended, I learned that Pete Navarro, Trump's crackpot economic guru, boasted that America was looking to redraw the Canadian border.
Threatening to move the border isn’t a bargaining chip to get a better trade deal — it’s an act of war.
Maybe that’s part of the MAGA playbook. Who knows for certain.
But what Pete and Trump are about to learn is that Canadians will never give up an inch of territory. Not now. Not ever.
I came to the Russian Embassy to deliver that message because it’s becoming increasingly clear Trump is taking his foreign policy cues from Vladimir Putin.
The Russian Embassy is a seriously creepy place. As are the staff — like the guy who tried to use his car to make me move off the sidewalk. Like the barbed wire. Like the fact that they come out waving MAGA hats and shouting about beating Ukraine. Like the Conservative MAGA trolls who tried to swarm me when I arrived.
The people I spoke to on the line know full well that Putin is pulling the strings in Washington. They know that Ukraine is the forward trench in the fight for democracy.
If Ukraine is breached, Canada will be next.
None of the protesters were surprised by Navarro's comments. They have watched as the White House tries to enact the Putin playbook.
They remember how Putin's attack began with disinformation and cheap slogans about Ukraine not being a real country (cue Elon Musk). Then the language escalated to demands to make concessions on the border. After that, full-scale war, torture of civilians, and the kidnapping of children.
Is this Navarro's game plan?
He is targeting Canada because MAGA mistakes a polite and decent nation for weakness. Well, they’re in for a big surprise.
This is a Vichy or Vimy moment — Canadians understand that we either stand up to the thugs or kiss the gangster ring.
The United States is no longer engaged in democracy. We are witnessing a shakedown from a gangster crew.
And Canadians will never bend to fascists.
