I hope that all Canadians appreciate how different our freedom is from the one bragged about by our neighbours to the south. We do not live in fear as they must do, seeing as they demand the right to carry weapons for their protection. Third world countries are dangerous places. The United States belongs in the same category. Never in my 81 years have I feared for my life and I have travelled this country from coast to coast. When in the U.S. I am much less sure of my safety.
We are so very fortunate and must fight to our dying breath to remain a sovereign nation.
Late to this page so belated Happy Canada day. That being said, there is no reason we cannot celebrate our great country all year long. This is probably the most patriotic I have felt in a very long time. I had a fantastic Canada day and strangely, I have President Orangeman to thank for it (but I won't LOL). I spent the entire day meeting people, talking, celebrating our Country. I wore my Canada True North Strong and Free T-shirt. Our family all had flags and t-shirts, including a Canadian fan. Our house was decked out, my car sported a Canadian flag. I will die Canadian before I live one moment as an American! (Pass the Butter tarts please).
And unfortunately Canada 🇨🇦 will have to stand up for itself because no other country will come to our aid. This became very obvious when Trudeau called out India for killing one of our citizens on Canadian soil. No other country stood with us then… not until their citizens were also targeted.
We have to be brave, smart and creative to survive the fascist threat to the south.
I hope you all had a celebratory Canada Day yesterday! Thank you, Charlie for keeping us focused. We need to be in “elbows up” mode for the long run, with or without the “t-shirt”. 🇨🇦
At least in my experience when it comes to the elbows up merch, some of it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Corporations that are sucking us dry were way to fast in embracing Elbows Up for their own stores while trying to make us forget the constant price gouging
Canada's strength is soft power. In 1956 Canada's Secretary of State for External Affairs Lester Pearson proposed a UN group to enforce peace treaties, in part to protect the 7 year old NATO alliance and avoid scrapping between NATO allies France and Britain, whose forces had invaded Egypt, together with Israel. Canada contributed 1075 soldiers to the peacekeeping mission in Egypt, precipitated when Egypt nationalised the Suez Canal, and Pearson was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. Over the years 32 Canadian soldiers have been killed while on peacekeeping missions.
Russia's hatred of NATO has deep roots, as any country that sought independence from the former Soviet Union can attest. Ukraine's attempt to join NATO put it in Putin's crosshairs.
The biggest threat to stability and peace for Canada, Europe, Ukraine, and like minded countries, is not the Trump tariffs, it is his lack of support for Article 5, which guarantees NATO members will protect each other. Although the USA benefited from NATO support under Article 5 following the 9/11 attacks, the USA refuses to promise to render aid under Article 5 to other members.
Today, Canada Day, Trump announced he wouldn't be sending Ukraine the arms he promised. Not only is the USA not going to Ukraine's aid as per NATO Article 5, Trump is now withholding the tools Ukraine needs to defend itself from the aggressor Russia. Ukraine is suffering daily from Russian attacks, see US defence industry article:
The atrocious treatment of Ukranian President Vladimir Zelinski when a guest of the US President in the White House, and Trump's cozying up to Russian President Vladimir Putin should give pause to everyone. If Trump believes, as Putin does, that he can take what he wants regardless of international law, it poses a terrible threat to security generally, and especially to those countries that, for whatever reason, Trump wants to have, or have something Trump wants. Canada and Greenland should keep watch very carefully. Trump was not joking when he said he wanted to annex Canada or buy Greenland.
Hi Charlie, I really like your blog and have shared it widely. Your previous post had an error that may have been AI thinking for you. You referred to Charlestown. I'm sure you meant Charlottetown. I think the big slowdown with Elbows Up is Mark Carney's. He just gave Trump a veto of Canadian legislation.
That was a beautiful post Charlie. I was writing a response to a previous post of yours but it suddenly disappeared which happens a lot when I'm criticizing someone and that someone was Carney. I couldn't believe what I read. I wasn't comfortable with him from the beginning. To me,he has sounded more like a conservative which made my stomach turn. But, we are in a But mindset as we had to elect him over PP. I am well familiar with what goes on over the water in England and have followed it for many years. I think that's what made me uncomfortable about him. Bending his knee to Frump. I thought he was going to be a tough guy standing up to someone who has threatened our peaceful country and to protect us. Something has happened. He is NOT the strong one I was hoping for from his early speaches. And don't tell me there's something behind what he is doing. h my post almost disappeared again....I'm also disgusted with Doug Ford...another guy talking tough but not. And so Charlie it's a Not Happy Canada Day for me

Sweet lady from California!!!
Much love from Canada 🇨🇦

Just to add on to this. I of course would rather buy from a small Canadian business for anything Elbows Up than say Walmart
Dean Blundell wrote a beautiful article about his love for Canada

Elbows up!
Canada needs to stay Canada.
And God please help us who are not like the fools in control of beloved America.
I want the friendly, empathic America back.
Happy Canada Day, Charlie! And to every other Canadian!💖 Stand strong and elbows up 💪🏻
