Since the election of April 28th, I have received many messages asking if I am considering running to be NDP leader.
I served in elected public office for 21 years, representing a region bigger than the United Kingdom. I also had the honour to run for leader of the New Democratic Party in 2017.
I am not looking to return to elected office or to attempt another leadership run.
Since the election of Donald Trump, our nation has faced unprecedented threats. My focus is to serve Canada and to build resistance to the fascist and anti-democratic threats facing our world.
I will do whatever I can to bring people together from across this great nation. I will work across political lines to resist the threats to our economy, values and democracy.
This is my focus going forward.
I remain a committed New Democrat. I am deeply saddened by how the 2025 election played out. I lost many great colleagues. I am thinking of the great staffers who have been laid off. I know so many candidates and volunteers who gave their all.
The New Democratic Party must undertake a full and transparent audit of the decisions that led to such a catastrophic loss. Our movement deserves accountability.
But that is an issue I will leave to the NDP grassroots.
My focus from here on in is The Resistance. I am committed to the fight for Canada.

The shift from NDP was not as much the fault of the NDP but honestly it had to do with keeping PP out of office. I just wish more who shifted would nit have voted Conservative. How does one go from supporting the values of the NDP to the party wit no values.
Thanks Charlie for championing the Resistance. It’s the grassroots movements that get things done.
