Hi Charlie. I feel the same. I've lived a wonderful life thanks to Canada and I am willing to give up life for Canada. I look forward to your visit at Thunder Bay. I met a Canadian yesterday who really opened my eyes. He believes everything that Fox news and the US leader says. This person is otherwise a very intelligent Canadian. It's so jarring to reconcile his willful blindness with his otherwise intelligence. The US leader's dismissive attitude toward NATO efforts and the Canadian military has really inflamed the world. Me included. Many people don't realize that Canadian soldiers also volunteered and died fighting in Viet Nam. I am not against the USA--just the current administration. Although, I'm tired of hearing *some* Americans saying if it wasn't for what we are experiencing, you would be in the exact same political situation. In other words, be grateful to us. Because the truth is scarier. The US admin has deliberately infiltrated Canada to subvert the susceptible in parts of Canada. To say Canada should be grateful, well, It's perceived as just another example of US exceptionalism and entitlement. Canadians might be a little touchy at the moment over this"be grateful" theme.I t's another thread on the theme of Donald telling Canada to "be grateful. "It's become tiresome. I pray and support the American resistance. I pray for you every night and day as I pray for Canada and the world.
Hi Charlie, while I write this Mr. Carney's speech at Davos is on in the background. I think I'll just keep it on in a loop for a while. He said what I knew but had yet to hear said out loud. My point here is to state another truth. We must send troops to Greenland, and we'll pay dearly for that act. So far Canadians have pulled together to stand against the American administration's move to destroy us economically. And it's been making a difference. Now I think we can mitigate the effects of the reduction in lifestyle that's coming. If every community, at the municipal level, sat down and mapped out a plan to care for each other for the next 3 years at least we have a chance of becoming stronger rather than shredded. I'm seeing people doing an inventory of resources available through local charities of every kind. Each community could come up with a list of needs then and find the gaps. Much of what needs to be done to keep people in their homes and fed can be done (construction, child care, whatever it takes) by volunteers paid in meals and in some instances training. The federal government's hands off policy on banks has to change in this time. People have to be kept in their homes and the banks have to see to it. I believe we can keep each other from disaster if we work together. Canada will come out of this stronger and more prosperous if we do it right. The plan to build what's needed for a self-sufficient economy will take time, maybe 3 years or more. Unfortunately AI is a factor in all of this but if we can develop a care system that works we can withstand what's coming in one piece. This may seem like an overreaction but I volunteer in a soup kitchen now and the number of people coming for meals is increasing and the demographic is changing. My son was just given the grim task of laying off a dozen mid-level employees. He was devastated. This is just the beginning. If we act now we can maybe keep up. I hope there's a will to act now.
Hi Charlie. I have many American and Canadian friends living in the states. I don’t hold any ill feelings for them. They are great friends of mine. I still keep in contact with them on Facebook. I know they must be living in the States fearing for their safety and lives. My suggestion like another one posted is: To shut down our borders, have our Canadian Military there, along with our Canadian Border Guards and not let any Americans in our country, shut off any electricity or other essential resources to the States. Make them hurt. We don’t need the States to survive. We have enough valuable resources.

I'm American. I genuinely believe trump is trying to be the next Hitler. Seeing the regime using neo Nazi rhetoric is genuinely terrifying and something I never would have anticipated.
I knew trump was bad news from day one, 2015. But I never anticipated he'd be a Hitler clone. The thought of the possibility of death camps is terrifyingly real.

I have no children, no grandchildren. I worry about the PLANET, and all life on it!! Human, animal, plant! I, too, thought we were making baby steps towards social & environmental justice. Now, age 79, I really am losing faith. …..but onward….
I have two grown children who have their life ahead of them. I am stuck between grief and boiling anger. I am 70 and have lived a full life. I would risk it all for the safety of my children, all of our children, and for my beloved country.

My gut goes to a mode of "Be Prepared" much like the Girl Guide Motto as we know the gangster moves quickly with the intent and speed to overwhelm. We keep ourselves grounded and prepared when we connect with our friends and family daily and speak honestly about what is happening. Trust in this country is essential. We can do it.
