I absolutely agree! Time flows only in one direction! As the earth spirals around the sun it can never return to a previous celestial location - the sun is moving, the galaxy is moving, the universe is expanding. So we individually have to do what it takes to stay informed, to help others be informed (particularly the young who have no perspective to help them understand)!
I did a small bit today - I had conversation with four much younger people (I'm 82, these young people were between 20 and 30), I wanted them to realize that what's going on will have a massive impact on their lives going forward! They need to understand what's at stake! I think I may have made small inroads - baby steps may be all I can encourage but once they begin to see what's going on, they may also step up to join the "march".
My fear is that we are a hair’s breadth away from being swallowed up by the US and that it won’t be as a 51st state but as a ‘Protectorate’ or some other euphemism for a colony of the US with no say in our future. Think Puerto Rico.
Why would Trump give us any say in how the US is run if it might put his future electoral prospects in jeopardy. And don’t think he has no future electoral prospects. If he doesn’t become outright dictator of the US, he will almost certainly figure out some way to run for a third term or have one of his sons (or Elon) run in his place but still pull the strings of power just as he pulls the strings of Congress and the Senate..
If we threaten him with cutting off energy or critical minerals it will provide an even stronger incentive for him to take us over. Threatening him with counter tariffs sounds like it will hurt Canadians more than Americans. And I don’t think Trump is the least bit concerned about hurting Americans because he doesn’t think he will ever have to face an election again.
We waste a lot of oxygen wondering what Trump really wants with his tariff war. He clearly wants to be the most powerful person in the world. He wants his legacy to be the expansion of the US’s territories to include everything north off the Mexican border including Greenland.
I wish there were a way to avoid this mayhem, but I fear our options have almost disappeared.
I agree we need a Canadian Parliament - all parties working together to steer our nation through the coming months. Take the best and brightest, the visionaries from each party, and come together to form a mission statement, to be united with the common goals for the good of our country. (Unfortunately, there are the few who are power/money hungry, the hypocrites who postulate they are for the common good. We know who they are. They would not be invited.)
Boiling frog syndrome. I emigrated to Canada from South Africa almost 50 years ago and the people left behind kept hoping things would improve. Sadly now, they are struggling to survive and can't get out even though they want to mainly because of finances. I appeal to Canadians who have such a good life here, to not fall into complacency. Remain vigilant otherwise we too, will become the frogs being slowly boiled and experience what is currently happening in the States.
I've appealed to all fellow Scatterlings of Africa, to all fellow Canadians to add their name to the petition and to spread the word to people in their sphere of influence. Let's ban this filth (Elon Musk) from Canada!
I didn't leave South Africa in hopes of a better secure future in Canada, just to see my adopted country now threatened.
It's in everyone's best interests to nip this malignancy in the bud!
Agreed. Why are you not calling for formally withdrawing from the USMCA? The so called free trade deal with the US is the Neville Chamberline treaty of our time. Until you call for withdrawal it’s not flight or fight, it’s deer in the headlights frozen.
Thank you for your continued leadership. I am shocked by the number of friends and acquaintances who are unwilling or unable to acknowledge the gravity of events triggered by the Trump-Musk unholy alliance. Too many want to simply ignore any of the drama or unpleasantness instead of facing up to it and building a united front.
We have declared war! You didn't notice? So far it isn't with guns, but I don't know about you, but I'm doing my best to spend not 1¢ in the US! If all of us did that, they know it! Not a government controlled action - can't make me spend money where I don't want to spend it!
Charlie, do you think PP will work with any other Party, would Trump? He reminds me too much of Trump! And, his new 'Canada First' BS slogan which he stole from Trump, is Trump! I agree that IF our Canadian Party Leaders could come together right now for the sake of our Country, it would be good for Canada. But, I also fear the CPC has swung too far-right, and will no longer work well with others. For the first time in a long time; if, and only if PP wins, I'm hoping it will be a Very Minority Government.
Don't give up entirely on the CPC. I have friends and family who are "Conservatives". They're seriously concerned about PP and what he's up to. There could be pushback from parts of the country who don't see themselves as Poilievre Canadians.
That's encouraging to hear! I'm glad they are paying attention, I guess everyone is right now. We need a strong Majority Government and it can't be PP! We need to fight against the Dictator Trump, not bend the knee, which I'm positive PP will do! Have you seen what Danielle Smith is doing in Alberta? She's exactly like Poilievre, (Maple Magas). Thank you...
How refreshing it is to hear Charlie’s take on Parliamentarians working together to make Canada even better. We are in unprecedented times and novel approaches are needed to counter the threat from the south head on. I hope for a return to normal but I think the time has passed.
Elbows up 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Charlie, have you had a chance to talk to Mark Carney?

Bang on. I am looking for transformative thinking, policy and courage that takes Canadians way out of our comfort zones -
we missed that bullet, eh” and then slide into business as usual because it is easy.
I agree.. There is no going back on the 2025 project; with tRump or without..
The only reason I’ve never seen the inside of a jail is a keen sense of knowing when it’s time to GTFO of here.
Unfortunately, that sense has been making me crazy since November 6, 2024.

Having Kevin O’LeRy on cross country check up is a blatant display of CBC’s normalization of the ridiculous 51st state rhetoric.

What should we do? Declare war?

Canada needs a leader like you in this turbulent time.
