Hi Charlie Angus. My grandfather was also a Cape Breton coal miner that lived in a "Company House" during that strike. My Mom was the last baby girl born to my Grandfather Peter Mcneil and grandma Annie. They lived in Glace Bay. I am proud of my family's stick to it attitude and Caper toughness. I enjoyed reading your family history, fecking amazing B'ye!! ELBOWS UP!

Dear Charlie: Capital letters for EMPHASIS...I AM ALL FOR IT. Meantime. If our International Women's Day event/march in Vancouver was indicative of us KICK ASS women, we are screwed. I know it was a terribly rainy day, but there are people living life out in the rain soaked streets all over the world because of war, poverty, addiction. We who live in the relative comfort of our middle class lives need to step up with a show of SOLIDARITY and resistance otherwise our good lives will be downgraded to darker times. This response to the existential crisis you so deftly cover is worthy of a three-alarm-fire. Adrenalin, the antidote to complacency. I am 74 and only twice have I felt this 'triggered' for my safety in Canada. Once, during the Cuban Missile crisis, 1962 - if you were alive, remember that? Russia and the US? And the War measures Act during the October Crisis in 1970 with the FLQ. We don't know what it is like to have armed forces in our streets, gun-toting militia on the street corners...we are SO privileged. I'm feeling vulnerable...I worry for my kids, my grandkids. We need to march and protest and use our voices to shout out NEVER AGAIN...in all CAPS.

Dear Charlie, Thank you for your deep and insightful emails and calls to action. I can only imagine how much work and time this is taking.

I have a suggestion. I know that this is alarm-bell information, but I was wondering if you would tone down the ALL CAPS and save them for the three-alarm blazes. I've talked to several friends who subscribe and we feel like we're being shouted at all of the time. We've got a huge way to go and the constant adrenalin is not good for anyone.

Hi Charlie, great read. Thank you. I am an OG Northern Ontario resident from the farming / fence and guide rail community, and in fact lived beside your dairy farming buddy John V until my folks moved back to their roots in the early 80;s. I moved to NS in 2017 after being priced out of the Ontario housing market, and am now very worried for the Bluenosers here with Tim Houston at the helm and showing disturbing signs of a wannbe dictator. Going to hell in a hand bucket comes to mind with the lobster industry expecting the 25% China tariff and an additional 25% tariff to follow from the Trump dictator. Our Auditor General had to fight for her job, democracy and the voices for all Nova Scotians with bill 1. Too many are dying while waiting for healthcare, some of the highest regions of poverty in Canada, unaffordable housing, lack of jobs and far too many shady back door deals that your collegue Claudia Chender was wise to expose.

Keep on rocking in the free world and spreading the good word Charlie. Hope to see you soon in a one on one interview on 22 minutes with Mark Critch. My second news source outside of the CBC.

In solidarity, Debra

Stand the Gaff. Sounds like a movement Charlie. Where do we signup!?

Heard Hanging Songs for the 1st time today. It's some "shitkickin" stuff. Just great "Americana"

John Prines "Paradise" comes to mind. Story songs rock & so does The Greivous Angels Band.

Whether ya like it not we still share this great Continent. Mexico & all thier Southern neighbors to the Souh pole are All Americans. Sorry for US but we're not exclusive here we share almost half the world from pole to pole. We should care for it all together right?

Canadas love for Ukraine is outstanding and just another example of your country's truth out there for the world to see. I do mean an example to US. Thankyou from an ol American Booma.💙🇨🇦☮

Thank you again Charlie. You have reminded me how strong my mother was. She worked as a "Bomb girl" in Ajax, Ontario while my dad and two of her brothers fought in Europe and her younger sister (because she was underage) used mom's birth certificate to join the WAC's during WWII. They were the greatest generation.

Thanks for your reply Mr. Angus.

My husband and I use to listen to your band & have the album with Crossing the Causeway on it. I loved that song.

We certainly enjoyed your band back in the day. Such a small world.

I left Cape Breton for Ottawa about a year after that disaster. I only planned to stay away for 6 months, but Im still in Ontario .

Cape Breton will always be a part of me . Visit 1-2 times a year, never missed in 44 years.

I enjoy your posts and will even more knowing your connection to Cape Breton.

My Dad was a loyal NDP supporter.

On another note,

I looked after Tommy Douglas the year I started working at the Ottawa Civic hospital in 1981.

He didn’t have a private room, was on a ward.

Such a humble, gentle man.

His wife reminded me of my Mum …..great memory.

All the best to you,

Annadeane
