Hi all, today’s post captures the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, ignoring the concerns of Canadian citizens. The genocide in Gaza deserves more than ‘…time and a place’.

https://jeffhoulahan.substack.com/p/sounds-for-palestine-day-10?r=604ds6

We’ve started Sing Palestine Vivra to encourage people to make public demonstrations of support for the people of Palestine. Eventually, we hope to be able to use Sing Palestine Vivra to organize large scale campaigns of public demonstrations of support for Palestinians.

We will never accept donations or paid subscriptions.

In Solidarity and with Hand to Heart, Palestine Vivra

Apparently, a 15 year old child was put into Alligator Alcatraz.

So, it would have been GaradaWorld prison guards that were oblivious to this being a kid.

Alligator Alcatraz isn’t meant for minors. A 15 year old ended up there anyway: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article310785240.html#storylink=cpy

On top of this, it's been found Alligator Alcatraz was partially built using FEMA disaster preparedness funding for Florida's 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. Many of the companies that were awarded contracts for Alligator Alcatraz previously made political donations to Ron DeSantis:

DeSantis under fire for using disaster funds to build migrant detention jail

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jul/17/ron-desantis-disaster-funds-alligator-alcatraz

Gardaworld allegedly had donated $5,000 to his campaign:

Private ‘security’ firm illustrates immorality of rich and powerful

https://springmag.ca/private-security-firm-illustrates-immorality-of-rich-and-powerful

And, guess what? There are so many insects there laying eggs everywhere, that larvae are hatching in mishandled food, that's been left unprotected during preperation to air not under any pest control.

But, that's nothing compared to the toilets that have nowhere to flush waste to. It overflows onto the floor in the prisoners cages.

Detained immigrants at ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ say there are worms in food and wastewater on the floor

https://halifax.citynews.ca/2025/07/11/detainees-describe-worms-in-food-sewage-near-beds-inside-alligator-alcatraz/

Doom scrolling, Charlie?

No, it's called

TAKING RESPONSABILITY.

As Canadians, we are OBLIGATED to take action about something on OUR turf that's harming others.

As repulsive as all this was to read, it's NOT going to go away by pretending it's not there. Behaving in a way to set up plausible denial because you refused to look, is no different.

Call Carney. Tell him to get his head out of his toilet. AS HIS BOSS (which you are), tell him you expect him to do something about it. Give him a deadline to achieve it and keep you in the loop of his progress. That's how government works.

We can't shut Alligator Alcatraz down. But, we can make the hell sure we stop contributing to its atrocities.

Because, sooner or later... Someone WILL eventually come to us and ask us why we were complicit to this ugliness and didn't do anything.

And, it'll be worse later, because it would have gone on for years.

Regarding #1 of the recommendations, endless doomscrolling is definitely bad for our collective mental health.

However, I've noticed many who don't "doom scroll" remain quite ignorant of what's going on in the world. Some even wear it as a badge.

That's because we live in a world where it's entirely possible for someone to be a "model citizen" while being only peripherally aware of even the most basic information outside their immediate realm while concurrently remaining clueless about the horrors being visited upon people who are just like them, but happen to live elsewhere. "How does this affect me?" or "What can I do anyway" or "It's just bad vibes" are common mantras (the opposite of the relentless social media freak-out virtue signaller).

Increasingly, I hear people say "I don't watch the news" (in this context that includes legacy media and all independent online portals).

I get why. They don't want to see endless images of shredded children and other endless war crimes in Gaza, or continual videos of fascist thugs in masks rounding up, assaulting and kidnapping people in the good 'ole USA. It just brings them down, makes them feel helpless, or it fills them with rage (and being the next Unabomber wasn't part of their career path).

So they avoid knowledge and involvement. This fairly widespread passivity may be depressing, but maybe it's an opportunity for the more engaged to think about how to reach these folks beyond the usual methods?

I am one who says “I don’t watch the news” but I’m talking about most of the TV stations that offer squat. Or skewed versions. Or not enough information. I am an online subscriber to two Canadian substacks - @Charlie Angus / The Resistance and Letters from a Canadian Jessica Duncan, and a U.S. one @MeidasTouch, which involves many different voices. . I do occasionally watch a few others, but these are my main go to people. I know I get the truth, the information and the encouragement from each, although I find I do need breaks now and then. Thank you Charlie. 💪🏼💪🏼🇨🇦🇨🇦

Fair enough. Mainstream media is so often just tripe and propaganda for a bunch of reasons, but we can start with Chomsky's critique and go from there. I subscribe to a few Substacks including Chris Hedges and Seymour Hersh and this one. I read extensively and I also write my own posts.

One thing that should be said is that endless scrolling (doom or otherwise) is also a great time thief. And I'm as guilty as the next person. Staring at devices deliberately designed to be addictive is the new smoking. Even though we know it's bad, we can't seem to help ourselves - it's omnipresent. And yet it takes away from real life, and real human interaction, which is also one of Charlie's points. Speaking of which, time to take a break 🤔

Re: Doomscrolling and get out and get active.....my friends and I took a 'DT break' during last weekend's amazing 50th anniversary of the Winnipeg Folk Fest. Besides the magical environment, incredible performances and being outside for hours and hours I gained the perspective on the news/world situation I (personally) need. Of course we need to be informed to lobby our politicians and take appropriate action, but I am now spending much less time reading journalism and I'm ready to quit IG.

Thanks for your good work Charlie.

I can't thank you enough for your work on our behalf. I have been waiting for someone to take the lead in "the resistance" in my area and it may just have to be me! I was especially looking for a plan of action, which this article has provided. Please keep doing this important work. I will donate again when I can.

I love the list. Thanks Charlie! Like Timothy Snyder’s list in his book On Tyranny, it seems to resonate in my brain and pop up when I need it. I especially like the last item, hold your politicians accountable. My spouse and I have done this for fifty years. We make an appointment, wait awhile (sometimes) but eventually we sit down face to face with our MP. We have a chat. This is Canada. MPs will do this, at least in Northern Ontario where we are. (We have not done this with our newest MP. Yet. We are getting older and slower, and so it may not actually happen anymore.) We prepare for this, and sometimes bring printed stuff, with figures. It means that when we appear later with a crowd, outside the constituency office, holding signs and making speeches, it is not a surprise. We can still talk as adults to one another.

I think it is important to live out fully the fact that this is Canada, this is a democracy; and this person, this MP, is our servant — a highly respected one, usually, but a person sworn to represent us, and who is depending on us to be clear about what we stand for. And what we want them to stand up for. I think it is crucial for us to fully educate ourselves on the issues about which we are passionate, and then to educate them.

As I said, we are slowing down now. I give up this habit with profound reluctance. But I’m recommending it to capable citizens younger than us. Just as Charlie says: hold your elected official accountable. You are a citizen. This is your right, and your responsibility.

Right on Charlie...

Even though I'm retired now, I spent over 30 years fighting in Oshawa and I haven't stopped!

Sometimes you need something that comes from the US, but that's it. If I can get something made elsewhere, then that's what I'll do! And that includes a new car! Loyalty be damned. That's how they feel & so do I.

Keep fighting folks... I will be!

Good morning Charlie. As the NDP are not our opposition anylonger. The NDP did so much in getting the Libs to pass bills that were so important to the people. The NDP has always been the Peoples party and we don't have that any more....I guess Canadians have to feel suffering on their home ground in order for us to stand taller. We need to get back to where people were important not just the profits. And I am so grateful for you and the Resistance...and yes, Unions have been deliberately removed to reduce costs and make more of a profit margin and it started here in the early 70's. Being old and knowing what we had before is hard on me. We will never see the good old days but.....we still have to fight for the workers, the small people cause WE care. Have a great day

Charlie, your voice & the voice & strength of Canadians give me more courage!

Your national anthem may be, "O, Canada!"

I think of it now as, "GO, CANADA!"

Elbows up!

MAGA is rapidly imploding.

The MAGA faithful sound more unhinged & culty every day.

Meanwhile, I am getting tons of email about peaceful protests scheduled in my neighborhood, by our local organizers!

That just started really ramping up!

I am a disabled old lady in Southern California.

One of my health issues was exacerbated when I spent a lot of time outside last weekend.

I have been confined to home & back on a (hopefully) short course of steroids again, so I can hopefully breathe better & be able to move around, maybe even drive.

I share this only to show that ALL of us, EACH of us, CAN be part of The Resistance.

Am I able to do what I could back before my body failed me?

No.

Will I ever give up in our fight against The Fourth Reich?

NEVER GIVE UP!

ELBOWS UP!

To all reading this, keep your courage!

Charlie is 100% correct!

Don't doom scroll.

There are jobs to be done, whatever you are able to do.

Right now, for me, that means just spreading the word of The Resistance.

And keeping up to date, as much as I can tolerate, with the evil we are fighting in the US.

California, especially Southern California, is also a target of The Fourth Reich.

Imagine being assaulted, kidnapped & disappeared by thugs hired & directed by the regime that took over our country?

We saw it in LA County.

I know those cities.

Then, Ventura County, where we live, had the first incident of FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GOONS arriving on private dirt roads between our famous strawberry fields in Oxnard & Camarillo, California.

I know those people.

This is pure racist, fascist violence.

We are all afraid.

Except the shrinking number who are still deluded, who brush off reality.

Blessings, our Canadian Resistance!
