Generations before us stood in and fought, struggled, and sacrificed to ensure you and I would exist today. Now, it’s our turn.
We are staring at a future that is on the edge of collapse, not because of inevitability, but because of failure—failure of leadership, failure of communication, failure to act when action is necessary.
Transparency has been abandoned to the dark night. Momentum is being weakened by hesitation. But, history proves that silence is surrender, and we do not surrender.
This is a fight where some of us will die. That is the price, and our responsibility, to ensure the legacy of the best in humanity carries on.

Poilivere: when you accidently drink the truck driver's beer next to you instead of your own
Congratulations to Emma & Mark and the other resistance group for having such great courage (and it does take great courage) to stand up to bullies and bastards.
I found yesterday's meeting between Carney and Trump distressing. Carney took Trudeau's wishy-washy approach of appeasement. He just used different words: "Canada's not for sale" replaced Trudeau's "Not in a snowball's chance in hell". Carney's statesman chuckle to "Trump's jokes" replaced Trudeau's geeky laughter to being called a governer.
Carney looked like he didn't prepare for anything.
He did not quantify to Trump any of the real world consequences of the behavior on both sides.
He did not point out how ships from other countries have stopped docking at American ports and are now offloading goods in vancouver - while store shelves across America are emptying, or that Trump is not to be included in the new (global) alliances that are forming everywhere.
And, that brings me to the second point. Carney maybe the world's best banker and strategist. But, he is not a good communicator. He isn't a politician.
Without any transparency to the Canadian public, it's hard for anybody to assess risk in participating in a resistance against the Trump regime or in any protests.
Mr. Carney, Canada is not a bank where Canadians are its customers. WE ARE YOUR SHAREHOLDERS. Disclosing what happened in the meeting behind closed doors with only the premiers is NOT appropriate. Your wavering could end up weakening momentum when the resistance needs it most.
As I write this, another test of the Alert Ready System has just occured in Toronto.
When this is the only kind of communication we get Mr Carney, about what your plan is, WHAT THE FRICK ARE WE SUPPOSED TO THINK?
You do know sir, people will start to fill in the holes with their own worst understandings, when you stop talking to us because you are still "negotiating".

Although Doug Ford and David Eby expressed relief after the premier's debriefing, it’s not enough. Why did Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai suddenly resign instead of finish his term after the debriefing?
Canadians need clearer updates, not scattered reactions.
Something like Zelenskyy does in his nightly nation wide public address so that Ukrainians are not left in the dark about war strategy. That approach builds trust and unity, rather than uncertainty and speculation.
CBC’s About That and Steve Boots break down some of the Carney/Trump meeting:
Dodging landmines: How Carney navigated his Trump meeting | About That
You do realize that what you saw on TV in the Oval Office was held after lunch and after the private meeting. And what was said then you haven’t a clue. The Oval gig was for TV alone, this is the Trump Show, where he gets his digs in and the 3rd rate “reporters” screaming and shrieking over one another all to feed Donnie 2 dolls’ ego. Didn’t you just love what he’s done with the place?
Maybe read a Wikipedia page about Carney and learn a few things about him before you embarrass yourself more. Maybe you should offer your services to the PM. You obviously have pressing concerns that you doubt anyone will ever bring up to Carney. Him not a good communicator and all. Frankly, you surprise me, Andy (I do love that name). I would have thought that you were utterly fed up with professional Pols, who are in it for the free housing and the pension.
Its not what we saw in the news conference Trump and Carney had. Trump did not let Carney talk, so Carney was forced to make faces just to communicate.
And nobody knows what happened behind closed doors in that meeting. Carney may have confronted Trump, sucked up to him, or the two were telling jokes and exchanging Brookfield stories.
CBC Dodging landmines: How Carney navigated his Trump meeting | About That
It's what didn't happen afterwards. Take Zelenskyy for example. Every night, he keeps the Ukrainian people informed about the days events ensuring nobody feels left in the dark about war strategy. That approach builds trust and unity, rather than uncertainty and speculation.
Carney is more subtle. Don't judge him by the standards of the braggard in the Oval Office - he will have his own downfall. We are better served by one who understands the game but won't play by DJT rules. This was only the first meeting of sizing each other up, and I believe Carney has got the unrepentant convicted felon figures out.
Well, you are right. After the premiers debriefing meeting, Carney had the premiers communicate to their constituents their impressions of the Carney Trump meeting on CPAC. The reports started getting distributed around 6pm.
It did not look line Carney told them what to say. They all reflected on their own personal reactions and fears. Doug Ford looked stunned when he did his, so you can tell it was not a setup. They all expressed genuine relief.
This was a smart move by Carney to hand the communication side to the premiers, because they know their constituents and concerns. meanwhile, Carney is not comprimising either of the two conflicting sides: that of protecting the sanctity of the negotiations vs telling canadians what's going on.
I will add addendums to these posts after midnight, when the dusts settles and we know where everything has landed.
You indeed have courage. We in Canada have more freedom to protest, but know that in the U.S you are at risk. Elbows Up Emma and Mark we appreciate you recognizing that we are all in this together.
It’s true, @Charlie Angus / The Resistance, you have ignited the fire of determination in individual people on both sides of our Canadian border. You have given us courage to stand up for ourselves and each other. You exemplify what it is to be Canadian, and you are inspiring our neighbours to the south. In truth, you’re inspiring people everywhere - even as far away as Australia. I’m glad that when you quit politics you didn’t quit being Charlie. In this fight against facisim, there are no “others”, there is only us, all of us, together. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” Although those words have been variously attributed to Edmund Burke and others, they have never been more true than they are today.
The United States is now at that fateful moment when the Titanic struck the iceberg.
At first, everything appeared normal. For a short while, life continued as usual. But the sharpest minds understood that the damage was fatal and the ship was going down.
Nothing can restore the U.S. to what it once was. That ship has sunk.
While 350 million people won’t all drown, the nation that emerges from this wreckage will be fundamentally different. It will be unrecognizable from the mighty vessel it once was.
Love this new series! And really respect that you highlighted those across the border as well. This isn't an "us versus them" fight. It's an "us against fascism" war. And it for all of us to fight - regardless of the place our feet call home. It isn't just Trump - as you too rightly pointed out. it's the monsters lurking in every country threatening to take over. Here it's not just Poilievre - it's Smith. It's anyone who wants to market rage to adrenaline junkies. It's anyone who wants to turn the tide from freedom to imprisonment without telling you what they are doing. And we need more people standing. More people saying what they think. No matter if the monsters' minions come after you. You need to stand for what's right. At least, that's what my dad taught me. That and... when they can't speak for themselves, you become their voice. And Charlie? That's what you've become.
Well said, as always. We need ongoing examples to inspire us.
But we really need to stop using the word "authoritarian"; the meaning is lost on too many people, who see the "authority" part and think "aren't all parents and governments authorities? Why is that a bad thing?" This isn't a trivial point: people are more likely to respond strongly to "wannabe king", "dictator", "despot", "tyrant", "criminal", "convicted felon", etc. etc. "Fascist" has a vaguely unsettling connotation, and most folk recognize that it's not a good thing. But "authoritarian"? It's a null word that doesn't provoke the response we're hoping for.
Lost for a single word that fits the situation best? Try "power-grabbing asshole who wants to be the king of a country that has lost all of its democratic freedoms". Sometimes the right word is actually a phrase or sentence. *G*
My pick: Kakistocracy — government by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous people. We can call him Kak for short. And the word fascist should be used as often as can be.
Most people probably understand 'dictator' and 'dictatorship' and respond negatively to these as forms of government. When we add racist the Trumpists are described in even worse terms. When the Trumpists put into action their fascist desires then we call them fascists.
Thank n you Charlie for giving me time on your platform to tell just one Americans story. The Resistance is alive here in the United States 🇺🇸 My wife had such a smile on her face this morning thank n you again Charlie.
I came to this late but probably it was written before I subscribed.
That which is happening in the USA is very Kafkaesk and truly frightening for the whole world. Great work Charlie Angus! Elbows up it is!
Hi. I tried to subscribe for the 3 free issues, but wasn't able to open an account. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Susan Q
Isn't it amazing how brave ordinary people can be?
