As a Canadian, I welcome anyone from anywhere who stands for respect, decency, compassion, honesty and freedom! Roseanne Cash does.
That’s who Canadians mostly are. We try to do for the good of all so that all may live a good life. We definitely aren’t perfect but we have so much to be proud of.
I have the opportunity to meet with many new immigrants to Canada. I always ask them if they feel welcome. They have all said “yes.” Only a few had dealt with racism but said it wasn’t like what they would face in America. Before I say goodbye, I always tell them they are welcome here.
Canada’s strength is our diversity. America is the “melting pot” where everyone goes in the pot and is supposed to come out all the same. In Canada, we are a “mosaic.” We are many different cultures and communities and yet we are all Canadian! Everyone is welcome to retain their cultural identity and also be adopted by Canada. We are a big family. A beautiful picture with many colours.
The thing that I believe describes us best is
Canadians = WE
Americans = ME
I know many Americans appreciate our values. I stand with all who do. I know there are many of you who despise the fascist Fanta Fürher and I truly hope that you will remove his government while you still can so that America can move towards a brighter future and cheaper eggs.
Very nice message. We can't put all Americans into the same basket as Trump and his followers, As with us many many Americans are suffering and I get the sense perhaps scared of what is happening not to just then but the world. Elbows up !!! PS That was a very nice song, when things calm down I will have to check out your bands CD's,
Appreciative American here. And in watching and listening to your video, I see why you are such a perfect counter-voice to Trumpism. You have lived an adventuresome, genuine, real life, connected to earthy people and seemingly full of long friendships. The very opposite of our superficial, narcissistic, pampered, spoiled orange brat in the WH.
I just saw an ad on US website anti mark carney. Holy shit. I was looking up some things about Tim Minchin and all of a sudden an ad came onto my laptop screen. It was a message saying that Donald Trump likes tough guys and does not like weak things. And that’s why he doesn’t like Mark Carney. It was a very slick ad. 😳😳😳😳😳😳😡😡😡😡😡😡 THIS IS A BIG BIG FIGHT WITH AN EXTREMELY WELL FUNDED CAMPAIGN TO PUT POILIEVRE IN POWER.
For anyone else who wants to stream or buy Grievous Angels' music (and hear Charlie's singing and songwriting) you can find them at Bandcamp (who gives artist's a better deal than other streamers).
They have so many great songs. My personal favourites (in order of albums) are: This is How the City Falls, Friday Night, All Night Depanneur, Mile Outside of Kirkland, Fields of Normandy, Iron Workin' Man, Summer Before the Storm, Four Horses, First Signs of Spring. Blue Alberta Skies, Diamonds in the Snow, Having to Say Goodbye, Starting Over at 30, North of the Watershed, We Don't Seem Able to Love Anymore, Six Hundred Dollars, When Love Came Around, Ballad of Leonard Cecile, Sarah Gordon.
In keeping with the country spirit of this post, and the theme of co-operation, isn't it time we re-established, and perhaps expanded, the Canadian Wheat Board? Harper got rid of it over the objections of farmers in a questionably legal move. And then, once it was gone, our free trade agreements prevented us from putting it back. My understanding is that farmers have been hurt bad by the lack.
But the free trade agreement with the US is dead, and the World Trade Organization is moribund, so I don't think anything is stopping us any more. Let's bring back the Wheat Board and strengthen our farmers' ability to work together for the benefit of all.
So wonderful. Great story. I am an eclectic musician -- classical singing; celtic harp; love medieval-renaissance music; and really appreciate what we Americans call "country"'; glad to know it's "Americana." Merci beaucoup. Keep the faith (gardez la foi?)
Well said. There should be no place for hate speech and disrespect.
from just south of your BC border, this unification of decency and democracy is what I hope our betrayal of all this will teach the world.
“Kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight” is from another great Cdn artist Bruce Cockburn from the (now prescient) song
“Lovers in a Dangerous Time”.
This speaks to and for me… thank you.
I begin to think that Charlie Angus is the “Churchill persona” now needed by Canada
What a beautifully written column and also beautiful harmonies in the song 'From Red Deer to Margaree'.
Roseanne's dad Johnny Cash used to go fishing in Northern Saskatchewan so that's another Canadian connection. 🇨🇦
I lived in La Ronge then and recall encountering him once at Robertson's Trading Post store. It was a bit of a surprise, but a nice one.

I should say on the internet not on a website. Very slick ad.
