So, what is the Canadian mood in standing up to Donald Trump?
No doubt, some thought that we'd get tired. That the boycott would start to fade. That we'd cry ourselves back to sleep.
Not a chance.
Dr. Ted Harvey (Toronto) has been reaching out to the resistance network about his research into Canada's response to the Trump menace. Harvey is a longtime policy researcher.
The survey, conducted between January and June 2025, collected responses from over 3,000 Canadian opinion leaders and engaged citizens on how Canada should respond to Donald Trump's economic and political threats.
Dr. Harvey plans to release the full report later this summer. Below is an excerpt from the advance summary we received.
Survey Highlights
90% of respondents rejected the idea of Canada becoming the “51st state”
86% supported stronger trade ties with Mexico and other countries
82% agreed Canada should “play hardball” in trade negotiations
81% expressed concern about U.S. military threats and said Canada must be prepared to make sacrifices in resisting Trump
77% supported boycott campaigns; 32% had already cancelled U.S. travel
Dr. Harvey writes:
"These results show strong public appetite for resilience, preparation, and leadership.
There is a clear desire among many Canadians to protect sovereignty and values in the face of threats."
A follow-up note from Dr. Harvey:
Resistance subscribers who wish to "add their voice" to the survey, or invite others, should note that this survey is open through August and can be viewed or completed through these links:
I suspect that when the report is released and the data analyzed, the vast majority of the support for joining the Excited States comes from Alberta. And almost all of that is from UCP voters.
Charlie says it best: "We will not kiss the gangster's ring".
90% reject the idea of becoming the 51st state? Who are the 10% in favour? They must be Albertans.
