"If people say that here and there someone has been taken away and maltreated, I can only reply: you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs." – Herman Göring
Ah yes, supply management. Since big brother confiscates the wages of Canadian workers to the benefit of a particular group, we can be assured that competition will never be allowed. Even the mention of the word invokes the cancellation of reasonable discussion.
There is a reason why the separatist party wants supply management excluded from any negotiations. And it’s not because they are interested in Canada.
Canada has 1/10th the population of the USA with an average density of 4 people per sq km compared to 38 per sq km. If Canada had to supply the same demand for eggs, it would require a rethink of production scale.
Also might want to update this puffery about eggs to reflect current prices.
USDA policy demanded an entire flock be destroyed to control avian influenza, as well as preventing the use of vaccines. As usual, regulatory compliance is to blame—not Trump.
Matt Stoller in his writings on monopolies points to the corporations causing the shortages, and the increases in prices. The Canadian way not looking so bad now.
Coming from a family of farmers, I love how Canada does this. The US should do the same, and support the family farms in our country, instead of trying to put them out of business.
Charlie, I read you every day. I’ll always happy but you keep me informed and I am really impressed with what you’re doing and how hard you’re working and…. What can I say? That’s a really scary thought flew spreading everywhere.. It’s all a lot a lot.
Yes, everyone who takes a course in economics is brainwashed into believing that only the "free" market can or should determine what happens, b/c, they insist, it's so "efficient". But in fact it's only efficlent as to prices and that only intermittently. In fact, prices and quantities respond to every hiccup in the economy , climate, or environment. The supply management system on the other hand does sometimes favour consumers and other times farmers, but generally, it smooths out the bumps, allows producers to manage their animals and lands more sustainably, and enables everyone to get the products at affordable, predictable prices. Overall, it meets many more "efficiency" goals inho!
We're visiting Canada in May and I'm going to eat your delicious and inexpensive eggs every morning for breakfast! Cannot wait to be with our Canadian friends. [California]

To do this you VOTE Mark Carney!
Elbows Up!
It's worth paying a little more on average for some stability.
Always something to learn from you Charlie Thanks☮💙
Once again a great article. I only wished we could get more readers....
I was reading about a year back that some Midwest state dairy farmers sent a delegation to investigate our supply management system.
