This a little late and a little off topic, but it's as good a place as any to rant.

US media, even the centre and left outlets, continue to feed the American public misinformation. It's either intentional, or they're too lazy to research the truth.

1) Today I saw a CNN segment on Youtube. The host (Pam Brown) and her guest parroted that Canada has 250% tariffs on US dairy products. Not a word about how the tariffs only kick in when import quotas from the US are exceeded. Not a word about how those tariffs have never been appied. CBC's Andrew Yang explains it more fully than I could ever hope to. https://youtu.be/0lURdVBCBo8?si=2vC_NhVrZBHJZMjL

2) My newsfeed sent me an article by Newsweek about how Canadians are boycotting US goods in response to the Trump administration's tariffs on Canadian goods. They just don't understand. Sure tariffs are part of it, but unless I am sorely mistaken Canadians are boycotting US goods because we're sorely PISSED OFF by Trump's threats to our sovereignty and his total disrespect for Canadians, our leaders, and our country. I'm not reading comments from Canadian seniors willing to take up arms if necessary just because Trump is making Americans pay more for our aluminum and steel.

End of rant. I don't feel any better for having vented, unfortunately. Thanks for your tolerance of my bad mood. Elbows up!

I have heard over and over that we need to study history so we can learn from it. Whenever I've studied history I get the sense that humanity rarely if ever learns from history. We keep making the same, or more egregious mistakes over and over again. I'm not holding my breath that we will do any better this time around. All the same I am grateful for this history lesson. May we and our American friends embrace 'woke' like never before! Bring on 'the resistance.'

Mr. Trump famously says he loves the poorly educated. Probably because it's easier to con the ignorant. I reflect that, of all of humanity, he loves himself the most.

It’s giving Big “lets them eat cake” energy. Which I recognize was also propaganda against Marie Antoinette but given his propensity to literally not understand, well anything, let them eat cake. I love cake. We love cake. The us has the best cake. Elon gave me his best cake recipe…..and so forth”

As I recall it was April 2017 that Trump enthused about "the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you’ve ever seen" that he had served to President Xi when entertaining him at Mar-a-Lago.

The situation America finds itself, and the conditions for the fascistic takeover by Trump and the sycophantic GOP, resides in the following contradictions:

A/ The top 10% have 69% of all wealth in America. The Top 50% of the population have 94% of America’s wealth.

B/ A large number of Americans consider taxes un-American and social welfare (aka helping those with less with health care, etc.) is communist. I believe even the majority of poor Americans think that way!

This is a recipe for an escalating crisis of income and wealth inequality that reinforces political and social instability and puts democracy in real danger.

Thanks Charlie for another accurate "history comparisons" post, especially the "Myth of the Chilean “Miracle” part that most likely all but a few have forgotten regarding the 1973 fascist stain that University of Chicago economist Milton Friedman left on society especially in Chile.

As you so eloquently note in many of your posts this latest "Trump regime" fascist power grab, this time spreading our from America is nothing new. It have been beaten bad in the past and together we will do it again. My grandfather did it with are our wartime allies during WWII neutralizing Nazi fascists in the Liberation of Holland so now in a different place and circumstances it is my turn. So be it !

Today April 1st (April Fools Day) a few friends and I gathered for what we called "Moon over Washington" image with the message "Donald 51st State This" - I'll leave it your your imaginations what the image showed but I can say the multi-moon image was clear and the message was unwavering, we will not kiss the American Fuhrers ring and we will not back down from his fascist threats.

Tomorrow a small local area non-partisan grassroots campaign begins what we call "Hey Neighbour" where a small group are contacting every eligible voter we know to VOTE and also encourage them to pass the message on to their friends and their friends.

In our Hey Neigbour info handout we encourage all to find out and inform yourselves, do your own look into - contact/connect with the candidates in your riding. All we are supplying is our case in our NS South Shore-St. Margaret's riding is the candidates contact info nothing more political party wise so it is 100% up to YOU on you and you alone who you decide to vote for.

There are no excuses not to vote as there are multiple ways to do so as our main focus is to provide Elections Canada resource info/links to all so folks can easily find out, are you registered, how to register, where to vote (polling stations), advance poll dates/locations, etc.

Given there was only approx 62.6% turnout in the last federal election (63% in our riding) we need to do so much better as Canadians, given what happened to our south last November to present day your vote could not be more important in our still functioning democracy.

Once a winner is declared late in the evening on April 28th the real work begins to hold the winning party who will form the next Canadian Government (majority or a minority) to task as to not let them slip back into the stagnant and stale same ole corpo big business political elite driven governing agenda.

In the words of anthropologist Dr. Jason Hickel . . . . . .

"What is striking about capitalist civilization is that it has no real direction. There is no vision for social progress, no commitment for improving human welfare or ecology. All we get is the chaos of profit-oriented production and accumulation while the world burns around us".

Together we can do better, we must do better.

Elbows Up - PLEASE VOTE

PS - Don't be shy to try a similar action to "get out the vote" in your area and for some tips the Council of Canada has a great website . . . https://canadians.org/ . . . where they have lots of good information in how to start your own group.

For those in the Halifax area this coming Sunday April 6th - hope to see you at the "ELBOWS UP" Rally at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth @1400hrs.

All the best, take care and thanks for your time.

I sure hope at least some of the American people are reading this. I do feel for the many citizens who are trapped there (for a variety of reasons) and one can only hope that the representatives in congress and senate will have the courage to call out the obvious. USA is burning and many are still fiddling.
