I stand with you in your remarks stating that Donald Trump should not be allowed to enter Canada for the upcoming G7 meeting in Alberta. I will not call Trump President. He is a fascist dictator who is destroying his own country’s democracy and he is a convicted Felon who should be arrested and deported if he crosses into our country. To allow him into our country would be nothing but appeasement and would leave us morally bankrupt. When I voted in our recent election, I did so, to stand up for what is right not to do what is easy and totally corrupt. Prime Minister Carney, Trump should not be allowed in Canada. Stand up for what is RIGHT!!!

β€œArmed” drones assembled in the garages of nerds in the USA would make the truly armed reactionaries and their minions truly hilarious. Just a thought.

Spot on as usual. I wonder where the leadership of the military is. They are certainly not the Americans that the Milleys are.

β€œIt is better to fight against fascism when it’s being built than when it has been firmly established.” I surely agree with this statement. DJT has pulled out all the stops. His moves to form an authoritarian government are now predictable. Written for all to see in Project 2025. How will the trajectory of his lawlessness change? Only with the bravery and courage of those citizens of the resistance. It will also take a change of heart for those in the police and the military, the Marines, and God knows who else they will have to call out to staunch the flow of MASSIVE resistance. You can’t lock up an entire country. Unfortunately, law enforcement cannot be respected when law enforcement goes towards defending the most egregious lawbreakers in the land, the president himself, and his non-law abiding administration. FEAR is a powerful tool! Unfortunately, Trump set the stage for all of this, and it is time for the people to be out there screaming, NO NEVER AGAIN. Californians, stand up for your rights, lead the resistance, it seems you must - BUT be peaceful and safe. We would rally by your side if we could. Canada is watching and learning. I hope our government has the courage to stand up to your corrupt leader at the G7 in Canada in a few days. Hopefully he will have to stay home because of the uprising he has stirred up because most of us Canadians do not want him here. Courage and strength in numbers! Don’t let up!

Thomas Sowell will tell you the truth

The real threat to democracy is people like Charlie Angus you don't understand consequences. Illegal immigrants have MURDERED American's - Charlie Angus is okay with that.

The GOP used dog whistle tactics to focus Americans on issues like illegal immigration that, while a serious issue, was not the national emergency that an aspiring autocratic president was. Now that he was foolishly elected, we in the States are witnessing a true national emergency from within.

Our Great Leader admires autocrats and corporate boardroom hire and fire leadership, acts like he is a dictator, and is systematically dismantling the checks and balances in our constitution. He also threatens close allies that share our political values while cozying up to overseas strongmen.

The extreme right has long wanted to undo the New Deal and its political lineage. That you quote Thomas Sowell is proof of your leanings. Stay off FOX News and its allies for awhile, take a deep breath, and peruse other theories of American governance and history so that you can get a diverse and proper view of US history and politics.

By the way, my undergrad education was at a conservative Catholic college where I studied US history and Western Civilization. What we are seeing today is also a break with the traditions of good government as found in Catholic social teaching as well as a break in the political traditions we have received from Great Britain via the rights of Englishmen, the Magna Carta and later Enlightenment era writings in the Brit tradition- something that is clearly in America's lineage. FOX and Sowell don't really address that much, do they?

If each day you wrote about just one way Trump broke, or bent the law in his favour, or cheated the American People, you’d be writing a daily blog until the end of life. Never has there been an American President that so flagrantly twisted the truth, and disrespected the Rule of Law, and the rules of decency. Nixon was bad, and was impeached. Trump is beyond comparison. It is important to keep telling the people about how he is destroying their democracy, and their way of life. WWH

Such nonsense. Trump is the most investigated person in history and NOTHING has come out of it. It was all a scam by the evil powers that be, that want to keep their power.

Charlie, what’s really behind Bill C-2? Would that set the stage for Trump-style deportations in Canada?

Stochastic terrorism is a concept describing political violence instigated by hostile public rhetoric, often through social media or other media, that indirectly incites violence against a target group or individual. Unlike traditional incitement, it relies on vague or coded language to allow for plausible deniability for the instigator. This rhetoric can create an environment where individuals, already predisposed to violence, are more likely to act out, even if the specific act is not directly predicted.

Thanks, Charlie, for your great insight and clear information. Have you yet raised your voice in opposition to allowing a 34-time felon into Canada for the G7? Our laws clearly say felons may be prohibited entry. Two considerations at hand- First, Canadian law must be applied equally to the lowest person and the most powerful. Of all the instances to demonstrate that Canadians respect the rule of, this one is critical. Second, based on his past behaviours, it is naive and unrealistic to think that Mr Trump will not sow or spread divisiveness and stir up disention. With an election just behind is, this is the time for unity, consensus, and civil dialogue, NOT toxic, dangerous rhetoric from a foreigner.

Trump and his government are insane: he appears to be suffering from advanced senile dementia, and his followers are also crazed -- with notions of their own self-importance. So, all sliding into full-blown fascism.
