Why Trump changed the borders on the “Gulf of Mexico” He's checking the “Outrage Barometer” to see whether he can get away with! 🤔 Next is Canada's 🇨🇦 Borders 😡

Appreciating, Charlie, the way you write with clarity… not the usual political scare tactics nor the muted “we’ll get through this somehow and it will right itself” self denial…

Also appreciating the thoughtful comments of solidarity and support here.

And as a long time NDP supporter, community organizer who works with boys and men, I want to work with the NDP to reach more men… it’s the demographic the Democrats lost in the US… we need more men in the pro democracy movement and showing men a place in the progressive path away from fascism.

Thank you! I've been talking about Weimar since 2015, I saw the signs then , I recognize them because my Grandparents fled Weimar in the 1920s because they saw the signs then as I see them now. I wonder where do I turn when there is no new world to save me.

We do have the power to change the future, we are still the majority by sheer numbers alone.

Nope. if you’re lucky, go to your local library and borrow “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” by William L. Shirer, an American journalist. Since you’re probably a troll, why don’t you Google “Brown Shirts Germany”. Think of what you could learn.

20 years now since "1984." Just part of why things are worse now is how Bill Clinton and the House and Senate Democrats drug the Entire USA national government to the Far Right.

Bill Clinton was in many ways More Right Wing Anti USA Factory Workers Anti Poor Pro Mass Incarceration While Pardoning Family Pro Nafta Anti Safety Net even End Welfare and Let them all work full time with no benefits ....

Bill Clinton should have ran as a Right Wing Republican. By making the USA Democratic Party more right wing than Ronald Reagan....and opposing the Peace Dividend from closing Arsonals and Military Bases.....by Bombing Yugoslavia and Iraq and Expanding NATO towards Russia after USA etc promised USSR Gorbachev Russia etc. ...etc

The stage was set for Genocide Joe AKA Real Life Dr Strangelove to be followed by Donald Trump yet again......

Another issue in Germany at the time was the economic crisis post WW1 and then the stock market crash. I see parallels with Trump’s ascension after economic difficulties facing the working class and Trump’s promise to bring back the “Golden Age” of the US empire.

One of the reasons that Trumpism is "stpuid assholism" is that it is unable to provide real criticisms of things like DEI programs and useless sloganeering by corporatations. And the progressives in America are in real trouble because they haven't even begun to really come to grips with all the stupid, bullying tactics they themselves used which caused so much of America to rally against anything resembling progressivism.

One concern I have is that Canada’s alliance only with democratic counties has partly been guided by our alignment with US foreign policy. This means turning up our noses at China and other important countries who really are not our enemies. As the US turns on us, this leaves us with an unnecessarily short list of options. China has not been so selective, and has built a broad alliance with American enemies. So, I guess I would suggest we might want to reconsider historical prejudices and consider if maybe we should be more open to non-democracies that promote stability, peace and the energy transition.

All true and I’m particularly drawn to the idea that we are at an inflection point in Canada. With the Maple Maggots on the verge of assuming control of the HoC, we need to realize that they will indeed do so unless voters are strategic in preventing that.

The Cons did their “unite the right” campaign with great success. Progressive parties would do well to emulate that and once successful, work to eliminate FPTP. The Cons’ base is a minority in this country and we need a voting system that is more proportional to keep it that way. I personally prefer ranked ballots but that’s a different discussion.

In a world where racism is on the rise, progressives need to set aside differences and work toward a common goal. A lesson from the USA in all of this is that Democrats who couldn’t see themselves voting for a woman, particularly a woman of colour, but wouldn’t also vote for Trump … just stayed home on voting day. This is on them.

In Canada, we can’t let our differences on the progressive side blind us to the fact that those differences on voting day will let the Maple Maggots win.

Watched "the Zookeeper's Wife" which reminds me of Weimar and the atrocities of WWII, a remarkable story of bravery in the face of danger.

As for the Superbowl, I'll be focused on the game and NOT that "orange peel"
